What shall we call our Magazine?

I’ve just subscribed to .Net magazine. For us web designers, it’s a great source of inspiration.

I had put off subscribing for a few months because I thought to myself “HOLD ON, all this information is available on the internet”.

However, each time I go into the newsagents, I pick it up and read it. There is still something really relaxing and inspiring about the printed word. Maybe it’s the tactile nature, maybe it’s because you can just take the magazine anywhere… I don’t know, I just know that people love to read magazines.

So this got me thinking. We’ve been meaning to create a small magazine aimed at business owners and marketing people to help them make more sense of marketing online and SEO. People generally don’t have a load of spare time in business, so this will be something they can have on their desks so they can try refer to when planning how to make more of an impact on the Internet.

We’re going to launch this next month. But I have a problem and …

I need your help!

What do we call it?

How do we name a magazine that is helping people build their online brand and build their business?

Please add your comments below and you can win a mention… or maybe something better.

    hello
intresting, .Net is an amazing magazine i have had a subscription for little under a year now.

As for a name if the whole mag is about building a company through brand and marketing why not something like…

    Biz Builder
    BBB business brand building…

    random ideas

  2. Sue Clark says:

I think it should just be called “Read Me”. Like the readme files you get for a new program. A kind of instruction to the owner of the desk it sits on too, but nice and clear and simple, which your advice usually is :)

    I have a few suggestions Chris;

Straightforward SEO & Kickstart SEO or perhaps Explore SEO?

    Cheers

Do you listen to Boagworld podcast?
Guy there wrote a book called the Website Owners Manual.

I think .Net is targeted at the same people, but the title sounds too geeky.

Something then that says very clearly what it does on the tin. Web Business & Marketing etc.

Sorry – not very creative… but I would pick up something along those lines in the shops…

    1) because it would interest me in some areas anyway as owner of some websites myself
    2) as a web design / development service it is good to know the issues my potential clients are worried about directly

    Cheers
    Paul

    GROW-ON-LINE

  8. Peter Booth says:

Just of the top of my head.

    ‘Net your customers’

  9. John Green says:

GROW by the way is Generate Revenue ON (the) Web.

  10. search me sounds like a fantastic name!! and i completely agree with the pleasure of reading the printed word as opposed to digesting my news on screen. Good luck with the magazine!

  11. Hmm a printed magazine – good luck! if you are going to also put the same stuff online make sure you leave it a couple of months!

    How about becauSEO
    amuSEOus
    seociology

have to say net profit is good!

  12. Val Dobson says:

GROW Online sounds too much like a gardening magazine – how many people would realise that it’s an acronym? And anything with ‘SEO’ in the title is too limiting – web marketing is about more than SEO.
Search Me sounds too much like a puzzle magazine – take a look at the magazine racks sometime and see all the puzzle mags with ‘Search’ in the titles.
I think Sue Clark’s suggestion is pretty good – it could be .ReadMe or perhaps readme.txt.
Can’t think of anything brilliant myself, but something like Web Biz or WeBiz might do.

    Hi Chris,
Great ideas there. Although you might be somewhat of a Geek, most of your target audience are not. So you need a title that is appealing to those people.

Personally, I think John Green’s idea of “GROW Online” is a great idea. It’s quite edgey, don’t you think? It could appeal to both the Geeks & non-Geeks in your target audience. You could have it with the tagline, “Generate Revenue ON the Web” directly underneath.

Just incidentally, if you want some assistance in designing the logo for your new mag – or any other part of the design for that matter, then please shoot me an email or Skype message. (My Skype ID is forward.vision) I may also have some contacts for when you’re ready to print, if you haven’t already got that sorted.

  14. Jason Linsey says:

Just another idea, that’s just popped into my head – Why not have your mag as a follow on from your DIY SEO e-book? You could call it something like DIY SEO Weekly or DIY SEO Monthly (whichever is more appropriate). I’ve got a great idea for a logo too. :)

  15. Chris Green says:

We are pretty sure we’re going to go with Net Profit.

    Thanks Peter.

(Jason – we have a top quality design team, thanks.)

anticipate it should just be alleged “Read Me”. Like the readme files you get for a new program. A affectionate of apprenticeship to the buyer of the board it sits on too, but nice and bright and simple, which your admonition usually is
