How not to market your products

We all love animals (aside: I don’t) and we all think that using them in advertising to win the ‘cute’ vote is a good idea (aside:I don’t think that either) but sometimes you can take it too far as a Russian company did this week when they thought a parasailing donkey would win them friends.BBC news (amongst others) has the story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-10695037

But the general gist of it is that a business thought it would a hoot to send a donkey up in the air to advertise their beach. What it actually did was terrify locals and get interest from the police, who themselves had words for the general ‘no-brain’ crowd.

Anyway, go enjoy the link, it’s almost funny.

I agree thats just silly thanks for sharing this

  2. This in NOT funny at all. I really wouldn’t like to be on a beach and explain to my kid why the donkey is screaming in fear. The only funny thing is the stupidity of the people that had the idea to para glide a donkey.
    Thanks for the link anyway.

  3. That donkey had become a victim of forced marketing gimmick. It shouldn’t be that way. Animal rights advocates had criticized such extreme advertising method as it borders outlandish fear and humor.

  4. I agree, animals don’t sell products for me..

  6. I don’t get the idea of the ad.Why must be a donkey..
Animals appear in ad are cute, but they should be selected. Not any animal can appear in ad.Today is donkey, who is the next?Bat maybe?

  7. I just don’t see the relevance why they use a donkey in their ad. The advertising company they hired should be responsible for that.. Really not a good ad.

  9. Contests are a good idea if that is your niche. But yea I agree a lot of marketing is a waste of money. When you use big marketing companies they charge huge margins that it is better to learn the skills and do it in house.
