We haven’t really spoke about Social Proof too much in this blog. But it’s a very powerful addition to your marketing arsenal.
For those of you that have never heard of Social Proof before, here’s an example.
We’ve all seen the cards placed in hotel bathrooms about the environmental benefits of reusing your towels. Research showed that about 40% of guests reused their towels at least once. When they changed the message on the cards to “The majority of guests who stay in our hotel reuse their towels”. An additional 26% of guests reused towels in response to the revised message.
That’s a very simple example, but show that social proof is a powerful influence. When people see that others like them are doing it, there’s powerful influence for them to do it too.
The reason I tell you all this, is that you really should be getting client testimonials on your website.
If you do a great job for people, which I know you do, then get your clients and customers to tell your audience about it.
It’s even better if you can do it by video. Here’s one of our customers talking of his experience:

My sentiments exactly Chris – when prospects visit my site there’s a link on my home page that takes the prospect directly to my client’s testimonials which are displayed on free index.co.uk
I used to be against the idea of website testimonials, based on the theory that anyone (including myself) could fake a bunch of great reviews, post them on a blog and who would know any different?
But actually, getting your clients/customers to write their own apraisal of your products or services on an independent website is a bloody good idea!
I hope Fabmo Design gets many more positive reviews in the future.
That’s a great example of social proof there with the hotel towels. I guess it’s about following the crowd. If others are doing it, it influences you to follow the same behavior, rightly or wrongly.
Love the story of the hot towels.
This also has applications to PPC. When you differentiate your ads you may discover a similar upward trend for your CTR.
You are right on the money. People are more likely to respond to comments from regular people than they are right from your company. This is the reason many are implementing social networking software into websites. If the business has an active community right on their site it says a lot for their reputation overall.
OMG, you are so right that testimonials are an absolute must in marketing your business, Libya in your website, brochures or even promotional videos.
Nevertheless, there are still plenty of business owners/managers who claim to the narrowminded opinion testimonials don’t mean that much. We had one insurance-based client who proudly stated that “…we never use testimonials in our marketing media because against our policy”!
True (but sad) story.
Excellent funny post. Thanks for sharing this information with us
Its funny, its not really matters if they reused towels or not
its their problem, but in the world of business as much as possible you will treasure the things that helps your business because if they are absent it the foundation of a business is not anymore balance
thanks for this post..It’s cool!.
